International Conference on Ethnic and Religious Conflict Resolution and Peacebuilding

We recognize this century to be a crucial moment in history, a time to ensure that our children and grandchildren do not have to suffer through the horrors of tribal, ethnic, racial, cultural, religious, sectarian or caste-based violence, as well as hate crime, war, terrorism, ethnic cleansing, and genocide. It falls upon all of us to open the doors to dialogue (especially academic conversations and discussions on emerging political issues, public policies, and various practices of conflict resolution and peacebuilding), to come to truly know one another, and to take the first steps toward achieving Sustainable Development Goal 16: peace, inclusion, sustainable development, and justice.

In the Fall of every year, we convene an International Conference on Ethnic and Religious Conflict Resolution and Peacebuilding in New York, United States of America. Among past attendees are conflict resolution experts, researchers, academics, students, practitioners, policy makers, delegates from the councils of indigenous leaders, delegates from local and national governments, delegates from civil society organizations, representatives from businesses, and religious leaders from many countries. Join us.

We are reopening our International Conference on Ethnic and Religious Conflict Resolution and Peacebuilding.

Due to the restrictions posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, ICERM was not able to host its annual conference in 2020 and 2021. ICERM members usually come together every year during the conference. The next in-person conference is scheduled for Wednesday, September 28 – Thursday, September 29, 2022.  Accepted presenters who can’t physically participate in the 2022 conference can present their papers virtually via Zoom.

The International Center for Ethno-Religious Mediation (ICERM), New York, is inviting scholars, researchers, graduate students, experts, practitioners, policy makers, representatives of indigenous peoples and faith communities to submit proposals – abstracts or full papers – for the 2022 International Conference on Ethnic and Religious Conflict Resolution and Peacebuilding.

To increase our understanding of ethnic, racial and religious conflicts in countries around the world, the conference will consider submissions from multidisciplinary fields of study and practice. Qualitative, quantitative or mixed methods research studies from university scholars and researchers are accepted. Case studies, lessons learned, success stories, policy analysis or design, and best practices from policy makers, practitioners, religious leaders and indigenous peoples are also accepted.

Proposal for a Panel: University scholars, researchers, policy makers, practitioners, religious leaders, representatives from think tank organizations as well as representatives of indigenous peoples can submit joint proposals for a special panel discussion on any topic that explores the theme of the conference.

For the 2022 conference, we welcome proposals that examine or explore the understanding of any type, case or aspect of ethnic conflict, racial conflict or religious conflict through one or all of these lenses: analytical (i.e., theoretical analysis); research (research methods, evaluations, or assessments); and resolution (practical solutions, best practices or lessons learned).

Exemplary abstracts or full papers shall not only bridge theory, method and practice, but must include findings and recommendations designed to further understanding and inform practical application.

To send your proposal or paper for consideration, download and read the full Call for Papers. After reading the Call for Papers, return to this page to submit your proposal online by completing the form below.
