Today, Dr. Basil Ugorji, President and CEO of International Center for Ethno-Religious Mediation (ICERMediation), New York, spoke with Deborah Yakubu’s parents to send them condolences on behalf of ICERMediation.

Deborah is the female student lynched by a mob of Muslim extremists on May 12, 2022 at a college in Sokoto, Nigeria.

The family is from Niger State. Dr. Ugorji had a video call with them. It was a moving moment for him. A lot needs to be done outside of social media, newspapers and televisions. The family needs real help and support at this time.

On May 12, 2022, ICERMediation created and launched a Facebook campaign in support of justice for Deborah and her family.

During the call, we confirmed that Deborah’s last name (that is, surname) is Emmanuel. Her full name is Deborah G. Emmanuel. Media reports say that her name is Deborah Yakubu Samuel.

At the request of Deborah’s family, we will use her real name, Deborah G. Emmanuel, in our communications and change the name of the Facebook page accordingly.

We are working with Deborah’s family to fight for justice and reparation and make sure that this heinous crime will never happen again. #Deborah #JusticeForDeborah
