What?
Enough is enough! Nigeria is losing too many lives and millions of dollars from investments and tourism, and many other sectors because of insecurity, instability, and violence.
#RuntoNigeria with an Olive Branch is a symbolic run of common and engaged Nigerians in all 36 states of the country to showcase the people’s demand for and need of peace, justice, and security.
After touring through all 36 states and handing over the olive branch to the governors of each of those states, the last run will be to Abuja on December 6, 2017. There the runners, the people of Nigeria, will hand over an olive branch, symbolizing the civic willingness for peace, to the president.
The runners’ T-Shirts, depicting the olive branch and dove as symbols of peace, speak more than a thousand words. They speak for the solidarity, the commitment to peace and unity of the Nigerian people.
Why?
Nigeria is currently experiencing lots of ethno-religious conflicts. During the 1st civil war between Nigeria and the secessionists of Biafra in the late 60s, 3 million people lost their lives. The reawakening and revitalization of the old agitation for the independence of Biafra; the virulent hate speech and violence-inducing propaganda circulating on social media; the thoughts of using military intervention as a way to solve Nigeria’s current political crisis;  and the continuous terrorist activities of Boko Haram should be of great concern to all Nigerians and the international community.
We believe that dialogue and mediation as well as supporting the democratic processes are key to creating sustainable peace.
That is why we run towards Abuja – to set a sign for peace and progress, and to raise the awareness for peaceful, nonviolent, and effective conflict resolution.

Who?
#RuntoNigeria is organized by the International Center for Ethno-Religious Mediation (ICERM) and more than 200 volunteers on the ground in all the 36 Nigerian states. The further the run moves along, the greater it will get and turn into a social movement across ethnic and religious lines, as the common people of Nigeria demand dialogue and a nonviolent resolution of conflicts in the state.
